These are scenes from the Eyak River trail which is only about five minutes from our home. Much of the trail is marked by planks due to the thick layer of sphagnum moss that covers most of the ground. It is usually saturated with water due to the 130+ inches of rain we receive each year in Cordova. Without the planks you’d find yourself bogged down into the moss!
A Lone Sentinel Standing Guard Along the Path
The trail alternates between meadow and forrest and is laced with skunk cabbage which actually does emit a mild fragrance reminiscent of our striped friends!
Much of this land reminds me of the Shire and I imagine that a Hobbit might feel quite at home here!
